Multi-Hazard Resiliency for Residential Construction Committee
(IS-MHRRC)
·¬ÇÑÉçÇø 605, Standard for Residential Construction in Regions with Wildfire Hazard
Established by the Code Council Board of Directors in collaboration with the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety, this ad hoc committee will work to develop a portfolio of hazard mitigation standards.
Resiliency and adaptability are crucial for buildings' responses to hazardous events. This committee aims to develop Consensus Standards for various hazards, including high winds, seismic activity, tsunamis and wildfires.
The committee is currently focused on creating ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø 605, Standard for Residential Construction in Regions with Wildfire Hazard, which targets wildfire risks for modern residential buildings of three stories or less. This standard will enhance building usability and reduce rebuilding time.
·¬ÇÑÉçÇø 605 will specify advanced methodologies for wildfire-resistant design and construction for new and existing wood-framed, steel-framed, concrete or masonry structures in wildfire-prone areas. It will provide detailed guidelines for walls, floors, roofs, foundations, windows, doors and other construction components. Additionally, it will offer a methodology for identifying, assessing and retrofitting existing homes to protect against wildfire hazards.
